The Background.
Towards the beginning of every new construction project, the solicitor (General Contractor) has to choose the best company (Subcontractor) to perform the work out of a group of competitors. Part of the selection process includes “prequalification,” which is an extensive vetting procedure that is used to ensure that the solicitor’s best interests are protected, and financial risks are minimized before a legal agreement is created. This was a net-new product for Procore, and we researched, designed, and developed the solution in 4 months.

What’s the Problem.
Procore offered no solution for Prequalification. Procore’s customers have been asking for several years for Procore to develop a solution. My team was asked by leadership to develop the MVP solution by Groundbreak, our industry conference.
The problems this product will be solving for our customers are:
Redundancy in creating, submitting, and collecting prequal forms
The collection process of vendor’s prequal forms
Reducing the time-consuming process of creating forms
Less cutting of corners in the interest of time — less robust data
Avoid awarding companies without the capacity to handle the job
Creating change orders — which cause delays and legal battles
Get to the Research.
We had approximately 1.5 months to conduct research and usability tests before the development needed to begin on this product. Our leveraged our relationship with our customers and were able to gather approximately 40+ of our customer's current prequalification forms. We also did a complete competitive analysis of the current solutions on the market. Lastly, we invited 5 clients for a 2-day innovation lab to dive deep into research.

Once we gathered enough research, our team met for a day to map out the minimum viable product, given our short development time. We mapped out the entire journey and then diligently moved items above/below the line while maintaining a complete workflow. This exercise was done with the ENTIRE team (engineering, QA, product council members).
This was the digitized outcome from that day. This graphic helped us break down development tasks in the key milestones (epics). We also made sure to complete the V1 before moving into any of the V2 or V3 tasks.
Let’s see The Mocks…
As previously stated, this product serves two persona types — the solicitor and vendor.
Below are a few screenshots of both experience as well as an end-to-end product walkthrough video I created with the team.

So What’s Next?
The product will be released to the general public starting the end of January 2020. Post-release, we will continue to develop features to make the product more robust for our enterprise clients. But our customers are saying great things so far…
